Types of fat:
Triglycerides: Fat found in food
Monounsaturated Fats: When one double carbon bond is present in the fatty acid molecule, the fat is grouped as monounsaturated, meaning one part being unsaturated
Polyunsaturated Fats: Polyunsaturated fats have several parts that are not saturated
Saturated Fats: When triglyceride molecules contain only single carbon bonds, the fat is grouped as saturated.
Trans-fatty Acids: A fat that is non-naturally occurring but it is created when innocent unsaturated fats undergo a process of the fat transforming into a more solid state.
Cholesterol is a waxy substance that that contributes to the formation of many essential compounds including vitamin D, bile acid, estrogen, and testosterone. Unused cholesterol gets stored as plaque in your arteries. Cholesterol can be found in your body but can also be found in your food. Cholesterol is comprised of fat. Our body needs it to make hormones, vitamin D, and help digestion.
Visible fats are fats that you use for cooking or fats you add in your food, whereas invisible fats are the ones that are in your food for flavoring; ones that you can not see.
A food that is low-fat will contain no more than 3g of fat per 100g of food.
It isn't the best decision to go on a low fat or fat free diet because manufactures will place salts and sugars and other unhealthy things in their products to make them taste better, since fat free and low fat items tend to taste bland.
